Brockwell Park Festivals Officially Given Green Light For This Summer

Summer 26 is looking lit as a series of festivals in south London’s Brockwell Park have officially been approved.

After an hour of debate last night (February 24), Lambeth Council unanimously voted to grant planning permission to event organisers, Brockwell Live. The vote means four events – City Splash, Cross The Tracks, Field Day and Mighty Hoopla – will take place from 23 -31 May.

This is the first time Summer Events Ltd, which runs the Brockwell Live day festivals series, had to be granted planning permission for its events to run in the park.

Until now, the festivals had operated under permitted development rights which allowed certain temporary events without formal permission.

Last year, action was brought by campaign group Protect Brockwell Park (PBP) who argued the council did not have the correct planning approval for the festivals, and that events exceeded the maximum 28-days limit of events of non-permitted purposes. The judge ruled in favour of this argument and the council said it would adopt a “new strategy” for Brockwell Live going forward.

There was a period of uncertainty for the Brockwell Park festivals as PBP sent a new objection to Lambeth Council after Summer Events applied for planning permission as was required by the ruling. However, after yesterday’s vote, it looks like summer is officially back on in south London.

Summer Events has now been granted permission to use just over a quarter of the park for up to 32 days between 9 May and 9 June 2026.

Speaking on the news, a spokesperson from Brockwell Live said: “Our team would like to thank the residents and stakeholders who engaged with us throughout the planning process, sharing both feedback and support.

“We’re pleased with the outcome, which recognises the cultural and social value of the Brockwell Live series, alongside the significant economic contribution it makes to Lambeth and Greater London, particularly at a time when night-time and creative economies across the country face increasing pressure.”

“Our commitment to delivering the events responsibly and with care for the park and its neighbours continues beyond this decision. We will remain in active dialogue with the community and will share further updates in the coming months on the new schemes underway to support and enhance the park’s biodiversity.”
