Plans Unveiled For London’s First Floating Park

The east London slander may have to stop soon as it could be home to a brand-new floating hub.

Plans to transform Royal Victoria Dock West have been proposed by Royal Docks Waterways (the company that holds the lease on the water within the docks) and they include several floating facilities.

Spanning 12 acres, the water-based destination would include floating homes, a floating wellness hub with a lido, sauna and spa experiences, and London’s very first floating park. The space, which would surround the IFS Cloud Cable Cars, will offer free water access and open water swimming. The proposals also feature space for art installations, as well as opportunities for art trails, cafes, events programmes and pop-ups.

Plans to launch the ‘floating hub’ are part of a larger project focused on the regeneration of east London’s Royal Docks, supported by £5 billion investment. Mayor Sadiq Khan hopes that he hopes Royal Victoria Docks West will ‘become one of the city’s most exciting new public spaces’.

“I’m committed to transforming our waterways – cleaning them up, enabling wildlife to thrive and improving Londoners’ access to blue spaces across the city,” he added.

“Royal Docks Waterways’ work will help to ensure that Londoners can experience clean and safe waterways and enjoy the benefits of spending time near water, helping to build a greener and fairer London for everyone.”

Royal Docks Waterways are set to hold public consultations with local residents and stakeholders to get their feedback on the proposals for the dock. If approved, it’s hoped construction will begin in 2030 meaning east London could be all the rage in just a few years.
