Horns and whistles at the ready as Leyton Más – The People’s Carnival is returning to east London for its second edition this weekend!
Taking place in Leyton, east London, the free family-friendly event is a vibrant celebration of carnival and masquerade traditions from the Americas, Africa, Asia and Europe. The spirit of carnival culture will be brought to life through live music and DJs, performances, a world street food market, a family play zone and, of course, colourful costumes.
In addition to being a spectator at the event, you’ll also be able to immerse yourself in the festivities by trying your hand at the steel pans, and taking part in drop-in workshops teaching Afro-Caribbean and Chinese dances, as well as Salsa and Zumba.
The event will also mark the official opening of Coronation Square – a brand-new space surrounded by 429 homes, with a further 367 set to be built.
Leyton Más – the People’s Carnival is organised by Great British Carnival – a diverse co-operative network of artists and producers who aim to showcase the heritage and diversity of all the global carnival styles in Britain.
The event is set take place at Coronation Gardens and Coronation Square in Leyton between 12-7pm on Sunday 13th July. The parade is set to begin at 1pm, with the route of the procession to be announced soon.
